This store remains unforgettable for many reasons. The work began like any other project—electricals flooring and false ceiling were completed as planned. However when our racks and counters arrived and installation started a large crowd gathered outside to protest against the liquor store. The situation turned aggressive and our team faced direct hostility from the crowd. Slowly our staff explained that they were also working only to earn their livelihood. Gradually the anger shifted away from us and towards the local MCD authorities and the state government. Eventually the store was opened for operations under police protection. It was a rare and intense experience for our team—one we will not forget.
